PML-N leads in early AJK election results in Mirpur Division

MIRPUR (AJK), Jul 28 (APP):The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) appeared to be leading its main rival, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), in Mirpur Division as unofficial and preliminary results from the first phase of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections have emerged .

According to unofficial results, the PML-N had secured five seats in the division, while PPP won two. Results from six constituencies were still awaited as vote counting continued.

In LA-1 Dadyal, PML-N candidate Chaudhry Azhar Sadiq defeated PPP’s Chaudhry Afsar Shahid. PPP won LA-2 Chakswari through Chaudhry Qasim Majeed and retained LA-3 Mirpur City, where Chaudhry Yasir Sultan emerged victorious.

The PML-N also claimed victories in LA-4 Mirpur, where Chaudhry Rukhsar Ahmed won, LA-5 Barnala, where retired Col. Waqar Noor was elected, and LA-6 Samahni, where Chaudhry Muhammad Razzaq secured the seat.

In LA-7 Bhimber, senior PML-N leader Chaudhry Tariq Farooq defeated former AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq.

In Kotli district, PPP’s Malik Zafar won LA-8 Raja Mahal, while PML-N’s Umair Naeem was declared successful in LA-9 Nikyal.

Several closely contested constituencies remained undecided.

The Vote counting was continuing in LA-10 Kotli, where PPP’s Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin was competing against PML-N’s Fateh Mahmood Kiani. Counting was also underway in LA-11 Sehnsa, where PPP’s Chaudhry Akhlaq faced PML-N’s Raja Asif, and in LA-12 Charhoi, where Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin was contesting against Raja Riyasat Hussain.

In LA-13 Khoi Ratta, PML-N’s Raja Ayaz Ahmed was declared elected after securing 21,856 votes.

The unofficial results indicated a closely fought contest between PML-N and PPP in Mirpur Division, with the final political balance expected to depend on the outcome of the remaining constituencies still awaiting official results.
