MIRPUR (AJK) , Nov 4 (APP):Under the spirit to ensure supply of pure hygienic cooked food to the consumers, a Food experts’ team of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority has conducted surprise checking of fast-food business operators including bakers and manufacturing units, restaurants and samosa pakora shops, milk vendors and general stores in Thothal, Fazal Chowk and nearby areas in the lake city, it was officially said.
During the operation, several violations were found regarding preparation of substandard food, use of unclean utensils, dirty water, and used oil, an official spokesman has told APP.
During the inspection, vehicles carrying food and beverages were checked and a fine for Rs. 0.1 million was imposed against the violation of the rules, while improvement notices were issued to 6 food units,he added
The team comprising District Food Controller Food Safety Officer, Adnan Ali Naqvi, Food Analyst, Muhammad Jalil, Assistant Food Safety Officers, Asif Riaz, Shahryar Khan, confiscated and destroyed on the spot about 38 liters of substandard and used oil during the surprise raids.
Five liters of substandard ketchup were seized. 20 kg of substandard sweets were destroyed, according to the spokesman.
The spokesman said on the occasion that “Preparation of food in a substandard and dirty environment is dangerous for public health. The Food Authority will continue such operations on a daily basis to ensure the supply of clean and safe food.
He appealed the people to inform the Food Authority immediately on its helpline 1280 if they see substandard food, dirt or adulteration anywhere in the district.
