MIRPUR (AJK), Jan 6 (APP):A high-level seminar convened to mark the anniversary of the pivotal 5th January 1949 United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP) Resolution on Jammu and Kashmir, urged upon the United Nations to immediately move for implementation of the resolutions to ensure grant of birth right of self determination to Jammu Kashmir people to decide about their destiny.
The event, hosted in the federal metropolis, was attended among others by by eminent diplomats, scholars, and Kashmiri leadership, served as a powerful reminder of the unresolved Kashmir dispute and the unfulpledged promise of self-determination to the Kashmiri people, APP AJK correspondent reported.
The seminar featured distinguished speakers including Ambassador Khalid Mehmood, Chairman of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI); Ambassador Rift Masood, Commissioner of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the OIC; Farooq Rehmani, Senior Leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and Altaf Hussain Wani of the Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR).
Participants unanimously underscored that the 5th January 1949 UNCIP Resolution is not an isolated document but a cornerstone of a clear international legal roadmap for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
It forms part of a coherent body of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions that collectively guarantee the Kashmiri people their inalienable right to self-determination through a free and impartial plebiscite.
The seminar concluded with a resounding call for the immediate implementation of all relevant UN resolutions on Kashmir. It was emphasized that a just and lasting peace in South Asia is contingent upon resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the will of the Kashmiri people, as pledged to them by the international community over seven decades ago.
The event served as a stark reminder to the global community of its moral and legal responsibility to address the escalating crisis in Kashmir and to compel India to adhere to its commitments under the UN Charter and international law.
