Judges to be accountable on their performance: CJP

ISLAMABAD, Oct 12 (APP):Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday remarked that the Supreme Judicial Council is active now and the time has come for judges to be held accountable.
The Chief Justice remarked this while heading a three-member bench comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan hearing a case pertaining to the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) supervisory role over lower courts.
“One bench of the Supreme Court headed by me had wrapped up 7,000 cases but when we ask a judge of high court he say only 20 cases have been wrapped up.” the CJ maintained.
“Many cases are pending before the courts from years and people have been crying and dying but they are not getting justice,” he added.
Justice Nisar said that now the time of judges accountability has come adding that those judges, who issue verdicts on very few cases, l also would be tried under Article 209.
He remarked that all those who sought privileges would now be questioned over their performance.
“Those who do not work will be held accountable.”
Justice Nisar observed that the LHC had failed to uphold its responsibilities and summoned registrar of LHC on the matter.
