ISLAMABAD, July 28 (APP): Ambassador of Pakistan to USA, Jalil Abbas Jillani,paid a courtesy call on Finance Minister, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar here Thursday and discussed matters relating to enhancing Pak-US trade and economic relations.
Ambassador Jillani apprised the Minister about the positive sentiment about and appreciation for Pakistan’s economic performance in the last three years amongst multilateral institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund as well as US financial institutions.
He said the economic turnaround achieved by Pakistan under the present government is seen with admiration in the US, a statement of the Ministry of Finance issued here said.
Ambassador Jillani mentioned that there was keen interest amongst the reputed think tanks and academic institutions in the US, including the United States Institute of Peace and John Hopkins University, which have expressed their interest in inviting the Finance Minister for an address to showcase Pakistan’s economic achievements on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank / IMF in Washington DC later this year.
The Finance Minister desired that his interaction with US think tanks be arranged on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank / IMF.
Ambassador Jillani also apprised the Minister about the Pak Envoys conference being held in Islamabad.
He also shared with him the recent developments in regard to Pak-US relations.
The Minister appreciated the efforts made by Ambassador Jillani aimed at enhancing Pak-US economic ties, particularly trade. He said it was the mutual desire of leaders of both countries to take bilateral relations to a new high and all possible endeavours should be made to contribute to this end.
