Uzbekistan, Korea discuss issues of strengthening strategic partnership

TASHKENT, Sept 24 (UzA/APP) : On September 23, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York City, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung.
The issues of strengthening the special strategic partnership and expanding multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea were discussed.
The high level of interaction achieved in recent years, as well as the dynamic exchanges and contacts at all levels, was expressed with satisfaction.
Mutual trade indicators continue to grow steadily. The volume of direct investments by Korean companies in Uzbekistan’s economy has exceeded $8 billion.
In Uzbekistan, four branches of leading Korean universities are operating, and vocational education centers are successfully functioning across the country’s regions.
High appreciation was expressed for the long-standing, fruitful partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Export-Import Bank of Korea, and its funds, whose joint project portfolio amounts to $3.5 billion.
An agreement was reached to prepare a new long-term Program of Technological and Industrial Partnership, which will promote projects in the fields of deep processing of critical raw materials, chemistry, mechanical engineering, agriculture, transport, aviation, biotechnology, and other priority areas.
In this context, the importance of holding the upcoming meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission was emphasized. The parties also exchanged views on issues of regional cooperation, including within the “Central Asia – Republic of Korea” format.
Following the meeting, the President of Uzbekistan extended an invitation to the President of Korea to pay a state visit to Uzbekistan.
