UNITED NATIONS, Nov 30 (APP): Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed the meeting between Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi that took place on the margins of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris on Monday.
“We obviously welcome any direct contacts between prime ministers of India and Pakistan,” the secretary-general’s spokesman, Stephane Dujarric,” told APP at UN Headquarters in New York when asked for the UN chief’s reaction on the development.
The brief meeting between the two heads comes amid heightened tensions between the two countries, including cross-border violations and cancelled talks.
Earlier this year, the much-hyped national security
adviser-level talks between the two countries were cancelled
after India insisted Kashmir should not be included on the
agenda, with Pakistan maintaining it will not accept
any pre-condition.
