Three Pakistani short films selected for 16th Chicago South Asian Film Festival

ISLAMABAD, Aug 29 (APP): The Pakistani filmmakers are set to make a splash at the 16th Chicago South Asian Film Festival (CSAFF) with three short films selected for screening in competition this year.

During the festival to be held from 14th to 21st September, the Pakistani films will be screened on September 18 at the AMC River East-21 Theater in Chicago. The event will feature Pakistani films ‘Dont be Late Myra’, ‘Fankaar (The Artist)’ and ‘Waqt Ke Saath Saath’ (Time after time), according to a statement issued by the CSAFF.

The film ‘Der Mat Karo Myra’ is a story of a young girl who goes home from school in her van. This 15-minute film is based on a true story and has been the talk of the town at film festivals around the world. The film has won awards at the Bergen International Film Festival in New Jersey, the Montreal International Film Festival, the Big Apple Film Festival in New York, the UK Asian Film Festival, Woodstock and other film festivals. Anaya Omar plays the lead role in the film.

The film ‘Fankar’ won the Best Actor Award at the Dada Saheb Phalke International Film Festival in New Delhi last year. The film is a psychological drama. The film has also been selected for the International South Asian Film Festival in Canada.

Waqt Ke SathSath’ is the story of a man whose daughter goes missing.

Earlier, Pakistan had a stellar performance at the CSAFF last year. The film Gunjal won the festival’s Best Fiction Feature – Audience Choice Award and the Song of the Sufi Audience Choice Award. It may be recalled that the CSAFF was first held in Chicago in 2010.
