Baku, Jan 5 (AZERTAC/APP) : Since the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which supplies Azerbaijani natural gas to European markets, began its commercial operations on 31 December 2020, it has transported over 54 billion cubic metres (bcm) of natural gas to Europe, TAP AG company told AZERTAC.
The end of last year marked five years since the TAP pipeline began commercial operations. Launched in December 2020, TAP has so far provided an ever-increasing flow of Azerbaijani natural gas into the European market.
The Trans Adriatic Pipeline has significantly strengthened Azerbaijan’s role as a reliable gas supplier to Europe. The pipeline has always served as a “safety net” for Azerbaijan’s European partners, contributing to increased liquidity in the continent’s gas market through commercial exploitation.
TAP, a key component of the Southern Gas Corridor that brings natural gas from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field to Europe, connecting with TANAP in Türkiye, crossing Greece, Albania, and the Adriatic Sea to reach Italy, with a length of about 878 km, 48-inch diameter, and initial capacity around 12 bcm of gas per year, expanding for Europe’s energy needs.
TAP will facilitate gas supplies to Southeastern European countries through promising interconnectors. To deliver Azerbaijani gas via Greece, Albania, Italy and beyond, connecting with other pipelines, the pipeline creates numerous opportunities for transporting Azerbaijani gas to wider European markets. In the future, the pipeline plans to transport an additional 1.2 bcm of gas.
