Shaza advocates for regional digital cooperation at CAREC Ministerial Conference

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Nov 20 (APP):Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja participated in the 24th CAREC Ministerial Conference, presenting Pakistan’s position on regional digital cooperation, connectivity, and investment opportunities.
On the sidelines of the conference, she met Kyrgyzstan’s Minister for Digital Development. Both countries agreed to strengthen digital collaboration and regional connectivity.
Pakistan offered bandwidth support through the Karachi and Gwadar submarine cables.
The discussions also covered joint fibre connectivity routes under the CAREC framework and the proposal to establish a joint technical connectivity group.
Both sides agreed to launch joint training programs in software, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. Initiatives such as the Pak-Kyrgyz Startup Bridge, collaborative hackathons, and exchange programs were also planned.
The minister also held talks with Uzbekistan’s Minister for Investment, Industry, and Trade, focusing on digital trade and strategic regional connectivity, including the Pakistan–Uzbekistan fibre link under the CAREC Digital Corridor.
Agreements were reached on affordable bandwidth, data centre development, and expansion of regional digital trade flows.
Discussions further included joint venture models in software, fintech, and e-commerce, promotion of outsourcing models in English and Russian, start-up collaboration between NICs and Uzbek IT parks, and enhanced cooperation in cybersecurity, digital policy, and a shared regulatory framework.
