Jeddah, Jul 2 (SPA/APP): Literary clubs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia play a pivotal role in supporting cultural activities. Over their more than fifty-year history, they have enriched the cultural landscape, reinforced national identity, and contributed to a knowledge-based society proud of its heritage. These clubs aim to cultivate a vibrant cultural community in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.
There are currently 16 literary clubs across the Kingdom, including those in Jeddah, Riyadh, Makkah, Madinah, Abha, Jazan, Taif, Hail, Tabuk, Eastern Region, Najran, Al-Baha, Al-Jouf, Northern Borders, Al-Ahsa, and Qassim. These clubs serve as platforms for cultural dialogue, nurturing writers, poets, and intellectuals.
The Ministry of Culture oversees these clubs, reflecting the emphasis on culture, literature, and the arts in Saudi Vision 2030. They are dedicated to preserving cultural heritage, fostering emerging literary voices, and organizing cultural events, including poetry evenings, seminars, and workshops. They also publish literary periodicals, develop talent through training programs, and engage in efforts to safeguard local heritage.
As they progress, these clubs are enhancing their infrastructure and leveraging digitalization to fulfill their mission. This approach has a significant impact on the cultural scene, enabling literary clubs to invigorate their activities, support literary talent, and preserve Arab literary heritage while reinforcing cultural identity.
