WASHINGTON, Sept 13 (APP) US President Barack Obama has extended warm wishes to Muslims across the United States and the world on the occasion of Eid-al-Azha, and said that as a nation his country would remain committed to welcoming the stranger with empathy and an open heart.
“Michelle (The first lady) and I extend our warmest wishes to Muslims across our country and around the world who are celebrating Eid al-Adha. This special holiday is a time to honor the sacrifice, resolve, and commitment to God demonstrated by (Prophet) Abraham,” he said in a message issued by the White House.
President Obama reminded that that as the Eid is being celebrated, millions of refugees around the globe who are spending this sacred holiday separated from their families, unsure of their future, but still hoping for a brighter tomorrow.
“And as a Nation, we remain committed to welcoming the stranger with empathy and an open heart, from the refugee who flees war-torn lands to the immigrant who leaves home in search of a better life,” he added.
President Obama’s message of welcoming immigrants, including Muslims, is a rebuke to demand by Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump who has called for banning Muslims from entering the United States. His anti-Muslim comments have also sparked anti-Islam sentiments in parts of the country. But in general, Trump has been severely criticized for making such demand which runs counter to American values and traditions.
President Obama wishes that may the spirits of community, togetherness, principled service, and compassionate generosity bring good tidings to those celebrating Eid al-Adha.
