BAKU, (Azerbaijan) Oct 14 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Friday discussed a wide range of bilateral issues with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev stressing upon building of strong economic and investment ties between the two countries.

In one to one meeting followed by delegation level talks soon after his arrival at the sprawling Zagulba Palace, the Prime Minister expressed his desire to further translating the existing bonds of friendship and cooperation into new avenues of trade and investment between the two countries.

He informed Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev about his
government’s energy, infrastructure and power projects being completed under the $46 billion flagship of Pakistan China Economic Corridor (CPEC) which also offered immense investment potential for the investors from the Central Asian Republics (CARs).

The Prime Minister said that his government was committed to vast regional connectivity through shared prosperity and was establishing stronger links with all the CARs.

The two sides also discussed various international issues and
the South Asia situation, particularly the Jammu and Kashmir.

Both sides reiterated their resolve to translate their close
political relations into substantive cooperation in all the fields,
particularly economy, trade, investment, energy and defence.

The Prime Minister appreciated Azerbaijan’s support to
Pakistan on Jammu and Kashmir dispute. He said Kashmir had been the unfinished agenda of UN which should be resolved in line with the Security Council resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

President Ilham Aliyev thanked the Prime Minister for
accepting his invitation to visit Azerbaijan.

He said Azerbaijan was eager to strengthen economic cooperation with Pakistan, adding that broad based cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields must be pursued.

“We support each other on all issues of our interests”,
the President said.

Thanking the President for the warm welcome, Prime Minister Sharif conveyed gratitude for the reception and hospitality accorded to the visiting delegation.

The Prime Minister said Azerbaijan had made tremendous
progress and prosperity which was truly remarkable,
adding Azerbaijan must be a role model for all developing Muslim countries.

Earlier, Prime Minister was warmly received by the Azerbaijan President and given a guard of honour.
