VALLETTA, Malta, Nov 28 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif
Saturday said that Pakistan was committed to make the world polio free
and had made the eradication of this disease a national cause.
“We will not rest till polio is completely eradicated from Pakistan,
as the whole nation stands united for this cause,” he said in his
address at a session `Polio Moment’ organized by the Commonwealth Secretariat here as a special event on the sidelines of Commonwealth
Heads of Government Meeting.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan had taken a series of actions
to save future generations from the crippling disease. He was
personally leading the National Task Force on Polio Eradication.
He mentioned that the country’s campaign included a strategy to
have well-informed parents, dedicated network of frontline health
workers, informed and supportive medical fraternity, civil society,
religious leadership and media.
He said there existed an enabling security architecture in Pakistan
which supported access to practically all children across the country and ensured safety for frontline workers.
Nawaz Sharif said the government’s priority was to reach out to each
and every child so that no child remains unvaccinated during the
nationwide polio drive.
He termed critically important to stop the transmission of polio
virus.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction that Pakistan had been able
to significantly reduce the number of polio cases.
He commended the Commonwealth Secretariat for organizing the event
and said that Pakistan looked forward to the support of Commonwealth in
its efforts to eradicate the disease.
