BIRGU, Malta, Nov 28 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his Australian counterpart Malcolm Turnbull met here Saturday and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in diverse fields.
The two leaders who met during the retreat session of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting here at the Fort Saint Angelo, expressed satisfaction over the existing cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade, investment and defence.
Prime Minister Sharif said Pakistan values its relations with Australia, adding that the present state of relations are cordial based on mutual trust.
He apprised the Australian Prime Minister about Pakistan’s efforts
in maintaining peace in the region and mentioned the sacrifices made
by Pakistani nation in this regard.
The two sides also discussed the areas for joint cooperation
including education and research, civil services reform and
governance, and energy sector.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Turnbull also exchanged
views on their shared interests in combating terrorism and extremist
violence.
Following their meeting, the two leaders took a stroll at the
historic Fort St. Angelo, situated offshore the blue Mediterranean
Sea.
