PM apprises IMF chief of govt's measures to revive, stabilise economy

NEW YORK, Sep 20 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Wednesday held a meeting with Managing Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva and apprised her of various measures taken by the Government of Pakistan to stabilize and revive the country’s economy.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The prime minister expressed gratitude for the IMF’s approval of a US$ 3 billion Stand-By Agreement (SBA) to support Pakistan’s economy.

He affirmed that these initiatives taken by the government aimed to create a stable and conducive environment for sustainable economic growth and investment. Additionally, a strong focus had been placed on protecting the vulnerable segments of society.

Managing Director IMF Kristalina Georgieva appreciated Pakistan’s concerted efforts in implementing policies and reforms to revive the economy.

She assured that the IMF remained committed to continued engagement with Pakistan.

Later, the prime minister wrote on X that he had a “constructive dialogue” with IMF chief that emphasized extending mutual commitment towards bolstering economic stability and growth in Pakistan.
