BEIJING, Dec 16 (APP)::In order to alleviate the Afghan humanitarian crisis, Pakistan is not only doing its best to provide assistance to Afghanistan, but also sounding an alarm to the world and calling on the international community to work together to help Afghanistan out of its difficulties.

As the most important neighbor, Pakistan is playing a leading role on the Afghan issue. I believe Pakistan’s unremitting efforts will achieve the desired results.

These views were expressed by Cheng Xizhong, visiting professor at Southwest University of Political Science and Law, special commentator of China Economic Net in a statement issued here on Thursday.

He said that on December 19, Pakistan will hold the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Islamabad, which will be extremely important.

Prof Cheng observed that importance of meeting is mainly reflected in following aspects:
First, as the most important neighbor of Afghanistan, Pakistan knows better the real situation of Afghanistan and how to lead Afghanistan to peace and stability. Through this meeting, the international community will have a clear understanding of the current Afghan humanitarian crisis.

Second, this meeting can set off alarm bells around the world and make the international community realize that if the situation in Afghanistan gets out of control, terrorism will revive and spread again, which is detrimental to regional and international peace and to any country in the world, including the United States.

Third, at this meeting, United Nations organizations, OIC members countries, relevant regional countries and even the entire international community can fully discuss specific measures, find some ways and reach consensus to avoid the collapse of the Afghan economy and help prevent the Afghan humanitarian crisis from spinning out of control.

Fourth, this meeting can also provide the foreign representatives with an opportunity to listen to the point of view of the Afghan Taliban interim government, therefore, bridging the communication gap between the Taliban and the international community, he concluded.
