Pakistan, China hold second TVET forum in Beijing to build skills for agriculture

BEIJING, Dec 23 (APP): The Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing hosted the second Pakistan-China Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Forum, placing skills development for Pakistan’s agriculture sector at the center of discussion. The forum aimed to link training, education, and industry needs to support workforce preparation in key areas of agriculture.
Senior officials from Pakistan and China, along with representatives of agricultural TVET institutions and enterprises from both countries, took part in the event. Participants reviewed options for joint work in sector-based training and discussed ways to prepare skilled workers for agriculture-related fields in Pakistan.

Discussions focused on the need for training programs designed for specific agricultural sub-sectors. These included agri-technology, food processing, livestock, dairy production, and food-grade packaging. In recorded messages, Pakistan’s Federal Ministers for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, and for National Food Security and Research, along with the Chairperson of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission, welcomed the initiative. They said cooperation in skills training can support national development priorities and strengthen the agriculture workforce.

Keynote speakers from China’s Ministries of Education and Human Resources also addressed the forum. They described the event as a practical step toward deeper Pakistan-China cooperation in vocational education. Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, highlighted the need to link technical and vocational education with Chinese investment in Pakistan’s priority sectors, especially agriculture. He said skills training should move in step with industrial activity so that trained workers can meet sector demands. He also emphasized cooperation between educational institutions and industry as a way to improve productivity and support food security.
