Pakistan Ambassador highlights role of Xinhua in strengthening Pakistan-China friendship at World Media Summit

Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Dr Syed Ali Asad Gillani, on Saturday highlighted the significant role of Xinhua News Agency in strengthening Pakistan-China friendship and promoting mutual understanding between the two countries, while underscoring the need for responsible use of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in journalism.

BEIJING, Nov 7 (APP):Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Dr Syed Ali Asad Gillani, on Saturday highlighted the significant role of Xinhua News Agency in strengthening Pakistan-China friendship and promoting mutual understanding between the two countries, while underscoring the need for responsible use of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in journalism.
Addressing the 7th World Media Summit, held under the theme “Media in the Intelligent Age: From Consensus to Action,” on the occasion of Xinhua News Agency’s 95th anniversary, the ambassador congratulated the Chinese news agency on its remarkable milestone on behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan.
He acknowledged Xinhua’s longstanding contribution to international journalism and communication, particularly its role in connecting China with the world and fostering greater understanding among nations.
Dr Gillani said that throughout the 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, Xinhua had played an important role in nurturing the enduring friendship between the two countries.
He highlighted Xinhua’s longstanding institutional partnerships with the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC), noting that news exchanges, professional visits and institutional collaboration had helped strengthen mutual understanding and bring the two peoples closer.
Describing Pakistan-China friendship as a success story built on goodwill, mutual trust, cooperation and collaboration, he said both countries had stood by each other irrespective of changing regional and global circumstances.
The ambassador emphasized the importance of passing this longstanding friendship on to younger generations and sharing its story with the wider international community.
Referring to the summit’s theme, Dr Gillani observed that artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies were transforming the production, dissemination and consumption of information, offering significant opportunities to make media more accessible and responsive.
However, he cautioned that these technological developments also presented challenges to public trust and the credibility of journalism.
He stressed that despite rapid technological advancements, the fundamental purpose of journalism remained unchanged: to inform the public responsibly, promote understanding and contribute to peace and cooperation.
The ambassador called for translating shared understanding into practical cooperation to promote peace, stability and mutual understanding across borders.
He warned that the irresponsible use of technology and media was adding to global disillusionment amid existing international chaos and turmoil.
Dr Gillani expressed the hope that the World Media Summit would provide an effective platform for media leaders, policymakers and professionals to explore ways of using technology to build stronger international partnerships without compromising the core principles of truth, authentic information and responsible journalism.
On the occasion, the ambassador also read out a congratulatory message from President Asif Ali Zardari marking the 95th anniversary of Xinhua News Agency.
Concluding his remarks, Dr Gillani once again congratulated Xinhua on completing 95 years of service and extended his best wishes for the success of the 7th World Media Summit.
He expressed confidence that the gathering would contribute to greater international understanding and meaningful cooperation in the intelligent age.
