MINSK, Feb 18 (BelTA/APP): Belarusian figure skater Viktoriia Safonova has completed her campaign at the 25th Winter Olympic Games in Italy, BelTA has learned.
Twenty-nine athletes took part in the short program at the start of the women’s singles tournament. Safonova scored 54.57 points for her performance, finishing in 26th place. The opportunity to continue competing for medals in the free program was granted to the top 24 skaters. Our figure skater missed the qualifying cut-off by 1.07 points. Four years ago at the Beijing Olympics, Viktoriia finished in 12th place overall.
Following the short program, Japan’s Ami Nakai leads with 78.71 points, followed by her compatriot Kaori Sakamoto (77.23) and American Alysa Liu (76.59). Russian skater Adeliia Petrosian is currently in fifth place (72.89). The medals in women’s singles figure skating will be decided on 19 February.
