NEW YORK, Dec 29 (APP): After an usually warm winter so far, snow, sleet and freezing rain that are covering the New York region on Tuesday made roads and streets extremely hazardous.

Dozens of accidents have been reports as the slippery conditions are sending cars and trucks spinning off roadways.

Tuesday’s late start to winter weather is a spinoff from the storms that swept through the U.S. Midwest, killing at least 13 people.

The region is under a snow alert, with temperatures plunging to seasonally appropriate lows while an icy storm moves over the region.

The New Year starts out on the cool side with temperatures in the low to mid 40s with mostly sunny skies.
