NA Speaker Turkish counterpart vow closer ties amid global challenges

GENEVA, Jul 30 (APP): National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq met Turkish Speaker Prof. Dr. Numan Kurtulmus to reaffirm enhancing strategic collaboration in defence, trade, culture, and parliamentary diplomacy.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, where both leaders pledged enhanced engagement via Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), and voiced shared concerns over Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIoJK), calling for collective parliamentary efforts to promote human rights.

The 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, being held from July 29 to 31, brought together leaders from around the globe to address rising global tensions and reinforce democratic institutions through dialogue.

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq underscored the exemplary relations between Pakistan and Türkiye, rooted in a shared history, mutual trust, and common aspirations.

He noted that recent high-level interactions between the leadership of both countries had significantly reinforced bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as trade, defence, technology, and cultural exchange. He also highlighted the unwavering support extended by both nations to one another during natural disasters, as a hallmark of their enduring friendship.

Speaker conveyed warm greetings from the Parliament and the people of Pakistan to the brotherly people and leadership of Türkiye. He emphasized the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening ties between the two countries, citing regular exchanges through Parliamentary Friendship Groups and mutual collaboration at multilateral forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA).

Both Speakers also exchanged views on pressing regional and global developments. Speaker Sadiq appreciated Türkiye’s consistent and principled position on issues of significance to the Muslim world, especially its firm support for the oppressed people in Palestine and the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
