MINSK, Dec 15 (BelTA/APP): Minsk has been decorated with 335 kilometers of light strings and 629 illuminated 3D figures for Christmas and New Year celebrations, Yevgeny Staselovich, First Deputy Director – Chief Engineer of the Minskgorsvet enterprise, told STV channel, BelTA has learned.
“Currently, Minskgorsvet has 335 km of light strings and 629 illuminated 3D figures on its books. This year saw an increase of over 30 km in light strings. It can be said that Minsk’s festive illumination consumes 700,000 kW per hour,” Yevgeny Staselovich said.
All festive lighting in the capital is now LED-based. The transition to LEDs for this purpose began approximately 15 years ago. “For comparison, an incandescent bulb from before consumed 15-25 W per single unit. Today, an entire meter of light string consumes less than 1 W,” the Minskgorsvet deputy director provided comparative figures.
