Man arrested in connection with pipe bombs targeting Trump critics

NEW YORK, Oct 26 (APP):U.S. authorities arrested a man on Friday in connection with a dozen suspected explosive packages sent to
Democratic politicians and high-profile critics of U.S. President Donald Trump, the Justice Department said.
According to multiple news agencies, citing law enforcement agents, the suspect is Cesar Sayoc, a 56-years-old, who
also has ties to New York, and a criminal history.
Sayoc was arrested in Miami, a large city in the U.S. state of Florida, the reports said.
Sayoc’s van was also taken into custody. Images of the vehicle show a variety of right wing political bumper stickers, including decals advocating for the Republican party and one showing a portrait of President Donald Trump on the left side window.
The investigation into this week’s wave of suspicious packages had focused on southern Florida and a mail sorting
facility in the area.
No one had claimed responsibility for parcel bombs, which were denounced by authorities as terrorism and came less
than two weeks ahead of U.S. congressional elections that could alter the balance of power in Washington.
The FBI said Friday that the package addressed to Booker, a New Jersey Democrat, was discovered in Florida and is “similar in appearance to the others.” Quoting “sources”, CNN said the package was addressed to the senator’s Camden, New Jersey, office. Booker confirmed the package was intended for him but declined to comment further to CNN.
The package intended for Clapper also was addressed to CNN, a law enforcement official said. It was found at a New
York City postal facility and was similar to the other packages, the official added.
President Trump was being briefed on the latest developments, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said. As
the situation unfolded, the President tweeted about illegal immigration, a key campaign issue he’s highlighted ahead of the midterm election
Law enforcement authorities are treating the bombs as a domestic terror matter.
Speaking at the Justice Department Friday morning, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said various agencies, including the FBI and Secret Service, were “working tirelessly” to investigate the packages.
