M5.0 quake hits Iwate Prefecture in northeast Japan

TOKYO, May 14 (Kyodo/APP): An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 struck an inland area of Iwate Prefecture in Japan’s northeast on Thursday, the weather agency said.
The 5:01 a.m. temblor, which occurred at a depth of about 10 kilometers, registered 4 in parts of the prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The agency said the quake posed no risk of tsunami.
