Tehran, Nov 5 (IRNA/APP): Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to send relief aid immediately to areas in Afghanistan affected by the earthquake.
In a message posted on his X account on Tuesday, Araghchi said, “The recurrence of a devastating earthquake in parts of northern Afghanistan, which resulted in the loss of lives of a number of citizens of this country and extensive damage, caused deep sorrow and regret.”
He added that the Islamic Republic extends its heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the government and people of Afghanistan, as well as to the bereaved families of the victims, and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured in the earthquake.
Additionally, the top diplomat announced that Iran is prepared to immediately send humanitarian and relief aid to the earthquake-affected areas in Afghanistan.
On the night of November 3, a powerful earthquake struck Afghanistan’s northern provinces, causing significant damage to buildings and infrastructure. The US Geological Survey reported that the epicenter was located 37 kilometers northwest of the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, which has a population of approximately 523,000 residents. The earthquake’s depth was measured at 10 kilometers.
