Tashkent, June 23 (UzA/APP) : President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the development of the tourism potential in the foothills of the Hisar Mountains in Shakhrisabz district.
Tourism is a sector that creates numerous jobs, contributes to increased household income, and transforms the appearance of regions with relatively modest investments. Kashkadarya region has extensive opportunities for the development of this sector.
In accordance with the Presidential Resolution of November 28, 2023, large-scale projects are being implemented to establish modern tourism infrastructure in the mountainous areas of Kashkadarya. In particular, with the involvement of leading foreign specialists and companies, modern facilities for receiving tourists are being constructed in the mahallas of Miraki, Amir Temur, Uloch, and Polmon. 117 projects are being implemented over 240 hectares, with an investment volume of $400 million. As a result, 1,700 permanent jobs are expected to be created.
The changes in Miraki today directly result from the decisions made and the consistent efforts undertaken within the framework of tourism sector reforms.
Whereas these picturesque areas were previously used spontaneously, lacking a unified approach, order, and infrastructure, they have now been transformed into a comprehensive tourism cluster – the Miraki International Tourism Center.
The President reviewed the landscaping and the facilities created here. A 10-kilometer eco-trail for walking and cycling has been laid along both banks of the Aksu River. A children’s playground, amusement park, recreational area for older people, family guest houses, and retail pavilions have been constructed – all of which have given the mahalla a renewed and well-maintained appearance.
The Miraki and Spa Resort already hosts two operating hotels, a shopping and entertainment complex, accommodations for 600 guests, and a family hostel with a capacity of 300 people. This creates the potential to serve more than 300,000 tourists annually.
The President also reviewed the operations of the new hotel and commercial complex and future tourism projects.
“The advantage of Shakhrisabz is that it can be visited year-round. We are building roads, installing utilities, and constructing hotels. Now it is important to broaden the range of services. What will tourists do in Miraki? How will they spend their time, and what will they purchase? Based on this, we must develop offerings and actively promote the region’s natural and infrastructural assets abroad”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.
Engineering and utility networks have been laid out to attract investors to the new tourism center. Major repairs have been carried out on the roads leading to Miraki and within the mahalla itself, and the electricity supply has been improved. To make the area even more appealing for visitors, a cable car over two kilometers long and a restaurant situated 2,700 meters above sea level have been constructed near the Gissarak Reservoir.
Thanks to these improvements, the tourist flow to Kashkadarya is significantly increasing. Last year, the region welcomed more than 2.5 million tourists, nearly half a million of whom visited Shakhrisabz district specifically. Given the ongoing transformations, this figure is expected to multiply in the coming years.
