HR violations in Occupied Kashmir highlighted at UN

GENEVA, Jun 21 (APP): Ending systematic human rights
violations in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir is the first
essential step towards the resolution of this long standing
dispute and the UN Human Rights Council should demand this.

This was stressed by Permanent Representative of
Pakistan to the United Nations Geneva, Ambassador Tehmina
Janjua while speaking at the Council on the issue of the right
of peoples to self determination.

She lamented the persistent denial of the right of self
determination which was granted to the people of Jammu and
Kashmir by the UN Security Council.

She underlined that the situation of human rights in
Occupied Jammu and Kashmir remains grave, and requires the
immediate attention of the Human Rights Council.

In an exercise of the right of reply to the comments
made by the Indian delegate in response to Pakistan’s
statement, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative, Aamar
Aftab Qureshi, clarified that Occupied Jammu and Kashmir was
not an integral part of India.

He said, Jammu and Kashmir was a dispute recognized by
the UN Security Council, adding, state terrorism was being
unleashed in the Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
He added that the day was not far when the shackles of
subjugation would be broken by the Kashmiri people.
