French envoy visits Rajshahi silk factory, expresses interest to support modernization

French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Sere-Charlet visited the state-owned Rajshahi Silk Factory and expressed France’s interest to support Bangladesh’s efforts to modernize the country’s traditional silk industry.

RAJSHAHI, Jul 29 (BSS/APP):French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Sere-Charlet visited the state-owned Rajshahi Silk Factory and expressed France’s interest to support Bangladesh’s efforts to modernize the country’s traditional silk industry.
During his visit, the ambassador inspected the factory’s production activities, management, infrastructure and overall operations. He said France is interested in working with Bangladesh to promote and further develop Rajshahi’s traditional silk sector.
The ambassador said necessary machinery and technical assistance could be provided as part of the cooperation to help modernize the factory.
Later, he visited Rajshahi Sopura Silk Mills at the Rajshahi BSCIC Industrial Area, where he toured the showroom and viewed various products made from silk.
Embassy official Nurul Islam Hasib, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr. A. N. M. Bazlur Rashid, Bangladesh Sericulture Development Board Director General Toufiq Al Mahmud, Sericulture Research and Training Institute Director Nasima Khatun and others were present during the visit.
