Météo-France expects the heatwave to persist into next week, with temperatures likely to peak on Sunday or Monday. Temperatures could reach as high as 40°C, including in the capital, Paris.
Previously, it was reported that global surface air and sea surface temperatures in May reached the second-highest level on record, according to the latest analysis from the Copernicus Climate Change Service.
