NEW YORK, Oct 22 (APP): The father of a Muslim American Army captain who died in Iraq is speaking out against Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, in a new Hillary Clinton campaign commercial.
In the 60 second spot, Khizr Khan, a Pakistan born lawyer, told the story of his son Capt. Humayun, who was killed in 2004, before tearfully asking the Republican nominee, “Would my son have a place in your America?”
Khizr Khan made headlines when he gave an impassioned speech about his son at the Democratic National Convention in July, condemning Trump for his anti Muslim campaign.
Trump responded by attacking Khan, and the two traded sharp criticisms in the media.
The video shows Khan holding his son’s military uniform and describing the way his son saved his whole unit when he stopped a suicide bomber in Iraq in 2004.
“My son moved forward to stop the bomber,” Khan says in the commercial, as he describes his son’s heroism. “He saved everyone in his unit.”
“He was 27 years old and he was a Muslim American,” Khan says in the commercial.
With tears in his eyes, Khan says, “I want to ask Mr. Trump: Would my son have a place in your America?”
The question was a clear reference to Trump’s ardently anti Muslim policy proposals, including his calls for a temporary ban on Muslim travel to the U.S., profiling of American Muslims and increased surveillance of mosques.
