DPM/FM Dar appreciates UN SG’s role in addressing global challenges, promoting effective multilateralism

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday appreciated the leadership of UN Secretary General António Guterres in advancing the UN’s role in addressing global challenges and promoting effective multilateralism.

ISLAMABAD, Sep 1 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday appreciated the leadership of UN Secretary General António Guterres in advancing the UN’s role in addressing global challenges and promoting effective multilateralism.

In a meeting with Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State Summit in Bishkek, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to the UN and underscored the close and longstanding Pakistan–UN partnership.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on regional developments, preparations for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), and ongoing work at the UN Security Council.

The Secretary-General appreciated Pakistan’s constructive and principled role in multilateral diplomacy and commended its contributions to promoting regional peace and security.

The DPM/FM extended an invitation to the Secretary-General to visit Pakistan, which he accepted. The Foreign Office of Pakistan will coordinate with the UN Secretariat to finalize the dates for the visit, a press statement issued by the Foreign Office said.

In a separate meeting with Secretary-General of the SCO Nurlan Yermekbayev, the deputy prime minister shared Pakistan’s priorities and proposed approach for its Chairmanship.

The Secretary-General conveyed his support and assured the SCO Secretariat’s full cooperation in advancing Pakistan’s priorities for the Organization. Both sides agreed to remain closely engaged and coordinate efforts throughout Pakistan’s Chairmanship.

He congratulated Pakistan on assuming the Chairmanship of the SCO for 2026–27, according to a press statement issued by the Foreign Office Spokesperson.

The meeting was also attended by Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch and National Coordinator for the SCO Muhammad Faisal.
