SANTIAGO, Oct 27 (Kyodo/APP): Japan’s Mina Sato successfully defended her women’s keirin title at the track cycling world championships Sunday in Chile, adding a gold medal to the sprint silver she won earlier in the meet.
The 2024 Paris Olympian crossed the line ahead of Britain’s Emma Finucane in the final at Santiago’s Penalolen Velodrome, with Stefany Cuadrado of Colombia taking bronze.
Sato, 26, won Japan’s first-ever women’s keirin gold at last year’s world championships in Denmark.
She was Japan’s star performer in Chile, collecting two of the country’s three medals at the five-day meet.
Kazushige Kuboki won silver in the men’s omnium on Saturday. The two-time Olympian was world champion last year in the non-Olympic men’s scratch.
