Cuban Ambassador for enhancing country-to-country collaboration in academic field

ISLAMABAD, Nov 19 (APP): Jes£s Zen‚n Buergo Concepci¢n, Ambassador of Cuba to Pakistan, has stressed the need for enhancing country-to-country collaboration in various academic fields including Agriculture, Biotechnology and Arts.
The Cuban Ambassador called on Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman Higher
Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan at the Commission Secretariat here on Thursday.
The Ambassador, who paid farewell visit to HEC, once again invited the
Chairman to attend the 10th International Congress of Higher Education University 2016 in February.
He said that the conference entitled “Innovative University for a
Sustainable Human Development” will be attended by over 3,000 people including representatives of Latin American countries.
The Chairman HEC stressed the need for using education as a diplomatic
tool to improve relations between Pakistan and Cuba. He accepted the invitation and said that such gatherings are fruitful for future collaborations in the higher education sector. He said a group of vice chancellors would also accompany him to attend the conference, as this will help improve cooperation in various disciplines of universities in the both countries.
He appreciated the support of Cuban Ambassador in building academic
relationship between the two countries. He wished the Ambassador prosperity and good luck on his return to Cuba.
Recalling the Cuban generous support in the devastating earthquake of
2005, the Chairman extended gratitude to the Ambassador for the Cuban government’s steps including provision of 1000 scholarships to Pakistani medical students.
He also reaffirmed that Pakistan will soon offer 100 scholarships for
Cuban engineering students.
He also shared the plans to set up a Sports University in Pakistan
while the Cuban ambassador offered cooperation for the initiative.
