China welcomes postponement of US-ROK joint military exercise

BEIJING, Jan 5 (APP):China Friday welcomed postponement of joint military exercise between the United States and South Korea during the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
“This is undoubtedly a good thing. We have said many times that China welcomes the recent positive developments in the situation on the peninsula,” Geng Shuang said during his regular press briefing held here.
The spokesperson hoped that all parties involved in the peninsula issue would take the opportunity of taking the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics as an opportunity to act in parallel and work hard to ease the situation on the peninsula, push the issue back to the right track in dialogue and negotiation and realize the denuclearization of the peninsula.
Responding to yet another question, he said that in recent days, the Chinese side had repeatedly stated its views and positions on the recent positive developments in the situation on the peninsula.
“The resumption of exchanges and dialogue between the ROK and the DPRK will help improve the relations between the two sides and ease the situation on the Korean Peninsula, as well as meet the common interests of the countries in the region and the international community,” he added.
Gen Shuang said that China welcomed all parties in the region and the international community to continue their efforts to support the improvement of relations between the two Koreas and at the same time play a constructive role in this regard.
He hoped that all parties concerned would play their due role and assume their due responsibilities.
