China seeks deeper cooperation with Nepal during FM Shisir Khanal’s visit

BEIJING, June 12 (APP): China has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with Nepal and expressed readiness to deepen practical cooperation with the Himalayan nation during the upcoming visit of Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shisir Khanal.
At a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian announced that Khanal will pay an official visit to China from June 14 to 17 at the invitation of Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Responding to a question about China’s expectations from the visit and its relations with Nepal, Lin said China and Nepal are friendly neighbors and longstanding partners that have maintained close relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1955.
He noted that the two countries have consistently adhered to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and supported each other in safeguarding independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Lin recalled that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s historic state visit to Nepal in October 2019 elevated bilateral relations to a strategic partnership of cooperation featuring ever-lasting friendship for development and prosperity.
The spokesperson congratulated Nepal on the successful completion of its elections in March and the formation of a new government, adding that China supports Nepal in pursuing unity, stability, development, and prosperity.
“China attaches great importance to China-Nepal relations and will take this visit as an opportunity to work with Nepal’s new government,” Lin said.
He added that Beijing aims to further enhance political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and promote greater progress in the China-Nepal strategic partnership of cooperation.
The visit is expected to provide an important opportunity for both sides to review bilateral cooperation and explore new avenues for collaboration across various sectors.
