BEIJING, Feb 28 (APP):China foreign ministry Thursday said the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected as per the United Nations (UN) Charter and norms of international law.
“We oppose any practice that violates UN Charter and norms of international law,” Chinese foreign ministry’s spokesperson Lu Knag said during his regular briefing held here.
He said the Chinese side believed in that sovereignty, territorial integrity of all countries must be respected.

Referring to Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s trilateral meetings with Russian and Indian foreign ministers held in Zhejiang and his recent telephonic conversation with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, he said Wang Yi had expressed concerns over the current situation between India and Pakistan.
Noting Prime Minister Imran Khan address to the nation and Indian foreign minister statement, he said, “We hope that two sides can exercise maximum restraint, engage in dialogue as soon as possible, manage the situation effectively, and jointly uphold peace and stability in the region.”
Lu Kang informed that China had recently been in close communication with India and Pakistan to promote peace and facilitate talks.
“Both sides say that they do not want to escalate the tension, so we hope that two sides will meet in the halfway and resolve this issue,” he added.
The spokesperson reiterated that China would continue to play its due role to ease tension between the South Asian nations.
Sharing information about a telephonic conversation with State Councilor Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, he said Qureshi had briefed his Chinese counterpart on the latest developments and Pakistan’s stance in this regard.
He said Wang Yi had expressed concerns and said China would still play a constructive role. The Chinese foreign minister also said he was concerned about the tensions between the two countries and reiterated that two sides should exercise restraint and avoid escalation.
The spokesperson informed that Wang Yi had stressed that sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected and also talked about China’s efforts in promoting peace in the region and facilitation in the talks.
Responding to a question regarding Indian government’s request for treatment to the Indian pilot who was captured inside Pakistani territory in accordance with the Geneva Convention, he said from Wednesday to this morning, he had noticed that media from India and Pakistan had differently reported this issue, so he would not comment on this issue.
He, however, reiterated that as two important countries in South Asia, harmonious relations between the two countries were very important.
Lu Kang said it was also very important to uphold regional peace and stability, adding, the recent developments had escalated the tension. “This is what we do not want to see and we are concerned.”
“We hope that the two countries can properly manage the situation so that situation returns to normal. It will be in the interest of all countries,” he added.
