China not building military base in Afghanistan: Chinese defense ministry

BEIJING, Jan 25 (APP): A Chinese defense ministry spokesperson on Thursday rejected the reports that China was planning to construct a military base in Afghanistan.
“The so-called issue that China is building a military base in Afghanistan is groundless,” Wu Qian said during his regular press briefing held here.
China and Afghanistan had normal security cooperation and that the China was supporting Afghanistan in the field of defense and counter-terrorism.
The spokesperson also suggested that foreign critics should not waste time drumming up the China military threat hype.
“Some people just cannot accept the development of China and its armed forces. They speculate about the so-called ‘China military threat’,” he added.
The growth of China is a matter of fact and will only contribute to promoting world peace, Wu said.
“It does not matter whether people speculate on, sabotage, or contain. All are a waste of time,” he said.
