China condemns journalist' murder in West Bank

BEIJING, May 11 (APP): China firmly opposes and strongly condemns violent acts against journalists who are performing their normal duties and hopes that the incident in the West Bank will be dealt with in accordance with the last and justice, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Wednesday.

“I have seen relevant reports and am shocked. I don’t know about the specific situation. As a principle, what I want to tell you is that China always firmly opposes and strongly condemns violent acts against journalists who are normally performing their duties,” he said during his regular briefing held here.

“We hope that relevant incidents will be dealt with in accordance with the law and fairly,” he added.

According to media reports, American-Palestinian journalist Shereen Abu Aqleh working for Al-Jazeera was killed by the Israeli occupying forces in the Palestinian city of Jenin.

She was shot in the head by the Israeli army despite wearing body armour with the “journalist” logo clearly written on her.
