ASTANA, Jun 19 (KAZINFORM/APP):Canada has defeated Qatar in the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group B, Qazinform News Agency reports.
The Group B match ended 6-0 in favor of Canada. Jonathan David scored a hat-trick, while Cyle Larin and Nathan-Dylan Saliba added one goal each. In addition, Qatar’s midfielder Mohamed Al-Mannai scored an own goal.
Qatar finished the match with nine players after Homam Al-Amin received the red card in the 33rd minute and Assim Madibo in the 53rd.
This victory marks Canada’s first-ever win in World Cup history. Previously, Canada competed in the 1986 and 2022 tournaments but failed to secure a single victory.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is being held in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. Argentina is a reigning champion of the FIFA Men’s World Cup.
Earlier, it was reported that Switzerland strengthened its standing in Group B of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a convincing 4-1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
