BALTIMORE, Jul 11 (Kyodo/APP): Tomoyuki Sugano tossed six innings of three-run ball and Jordan Westburg drove in three runs for the Baltimore Orioles as they beat the New York Mets 7-3 on Thursday.

Having struggled to pitch deep into games over the past month, Sugano (7-5) posted his first quality start since June 3, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out a pair.

The 35-year-old right-hander gave up two runs in the first frame but bounced back with a clean second at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

He was able to work with a 3-2 lead after the Orioles scored three in the bottom of the second, including Westburg’s go-ahead two-run bomb.

Sugano appeared on the ropes after allowing two runners on with one out in the fourth, but he limited the damage to a single run.

He finished with back-to-back scoreless innings, including a 1-2-3 sixth, while the Orioles took control with two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth.

“It’s been a tough month,” Sugano said. “I’ve overcome a lot of difficult times, so I just kept in mind the importance of believing in myself.”

At Target Field in Minneapolis, Seiya Suzuki went 3-for-5 and scored two runs for the Chicago Cubs in an 8-1 win against the Minnesota Twins.
