WAPDA Releases Rs. 972.5 Million for Development Schemes in Diamer Basha Dam Project Area

GILGIT, Aug 12 (APP):As part of its ongoing Confidence Building Measures (CBMs), WAPDA has released.
Rs. 972.5 million to implement key development schemes in Diamer Basha Dam Project area.
The cheque was presented to the District Administration at a ceremony held in the office of the Commissioner, Diamer-Astore Division. Commissioner Diamer-Astore Division, GM/Project Director Diamer Basha Dam, Chief Engineer (Construction Works), DG Social Safeguards WAPDA, Deputy Commissioner Diamer, members of the Dam Ulema Committee, and local community elders attended the ceremony.
The funds will be utilized for schemes aimed at improving the living standards of the locals and supporting socio-economic growth in the Project area. Implementation will be carried out by relevant departments of the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan under the supervision of the District Administration and in consultation with local communities.
Last month, WAPDA and the District Administration Diamer signed an MoU for execution of these schemes. A joint monitoring committee comprising representatives of the District Administration, WAPDA, and local communities will be constituted to oversee quality, progress, and timely delivery.
Under Diamer Basha Dam Project, WAPDA is implementing development schemes worth Rs. 78.5 billion for the well-being of the locals in various sectors, which include infrastructure, education, health, and public welfare. Major projects already completed include Cadet College Chilas, Army Public School Thor, and Hydropower Projects at Thak and Thor. Work on several other schemes is also underway in the Project area.
