Ulema delegation calls on CM GB; Agree to jointly fight extremism & promote sectarian harmony

GILGIT, Sep 01 (APP):A high level delegation of prominent religious scholars and mashaikhs from the National Qaumi Paigham-e-Amn Committee called on the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Amjad Hussain here in Gilgit on Tuesday to discuss regional peace, inter-sectarian harmony, and joint strategies to eradicate extremism.

The delegation included Mufti Abdul Rahim (Head of Jamia Tur Rasheed), Dr. Mufti Noman Naeem (Head of Jamia Binoria Alamia), Allama Ziaullah Shah, Maulana Zahid Mansoor, and Allama Arif Hussain Wahedi, among other notable scholars.

Highlighting the vital role of religious leaders the Chief Minister stated that the government takes pride in the Ulema, who have consistently supported the state during challenging times. He emphasized that Pakistan represents our collective identity and future, noting that national unity rather than mere material resources is the country’s true strength.

“True peace means eliminating hatred from hearts and respecting each other’s identity,” the Chief Minister remarked, adding that Gilgit-Baltistan serves as a model for interfaith and inter-sectarian harmony. He stressed that the speeches of Ulema carry immense weight, often having a deeper impact than government legislation.

He reiterated that disagreement is acceptable, but hatred and division are not, urging that youth must be guided toward education and knowledge.

Speaking on the occasion, Mufti Abdul Rahim urged the GB government to patronize the Provincial Peace Committee and conduct regular meetings to effectively counter elements spreading discord.

He affirmed that religious scholars would play an active role in eradicating sectarianism, noting that with joint efforts, Gilgit-Baltistan can truly become a thriving tourism hub. He added that loyalty to the state and the government’s commitment to public service must remain unconditional.
