GILGIT, Jun 08 (APP):Former Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan and President of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman, has said that with the inclusion of two independent candidates who won with the party’s support, the total number of seats held by PML-N in the 24-member Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly stands at 11.
Speaking to the media in Gilgit Hafeezur Rehman said discussions were also underway with other independent candidates. He noted that the election had produced a mixed mandate, making it difficult at this stage to determine the final numerical strength of each political party in the assembly.
He expressed confidence that the political situation would become clearer within the next one to two days and that PML-N’s position would likely strengthen further. He added that communication issues and difficulties in contacting representatives from remote areas were also contributing to the uncertainty, while the Election Commission had not yet officially released a final consolidated list.
The former chief minister said that in the spirit of democracy and for the betterment of Gilgit-Baltistan, PML-N would continue consultations regarding the formation of the next government under the umbrella and cooperation of the federal government. He stated that, under the guidance of Shehbaz Sharif and on the directions of Nawaz Sharif, the party would support any arrangement that serves the best interests of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Earlier, Hafeezur Rehman congratulated all successful candidates in the Gilgit-Baltistan general elections held on Sunday and expressed his commitment to working collectively for the development and progress of the region.
