Chief secretary reviews monsoon, GLOF Preparedness; orders immediate action over lapses

Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Arshad Majeed Mohmand chaired a high-level meeting with all relevant departments to review preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season and potential Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) risks.

ASTORE ,Jul 03 (APP): Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Arshad Majeed Mohmand chaired a high-level meeting with all relevant departments to review preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season and potential Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) risks.

He directed all departments to remain on maximum alert and ensure full preparedness to effectively respond to any emergency situation.

Later, the Chief Secretary visited the headquarters of the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) in Minawar, where he inspected the Provincial Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) and emergency relief stockpiles. During the visit, he received detailed briefings on the authority’s monitoring, early warning, and emergency response mechanisms and reviewed the overall state of preparedness.

The Chief Secretary also visited Manoga Nala to inspect the ongoing restoration works. He reviewed the ground situation, interacted with local residents, and expressed dissatisfaction over operational shortcomings observed during the visit. He directed the concerned authorities to initiate immediate administrative and disciplinary action against the responsible officials and instructed that all deficiencies be addressed without delay.
