PM Sharif confers with UN chief on Mideast peace and global crises
UNITED NATIONS, Sep 25 (APP):Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met UN Secretary-General António Guterres Friday and discussed major regional and global challenges, stressing Pakistan’s belief in dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts, particularly in the Middle East.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, now in its third day.
According to a press release, during a wide-ranging exchange of views, PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s “unwavering support” for Palestinian statehood and self-determination.
He raised concerns regarding terrorism originating from Afghan soil and the rise of Islamophobia globally.
The prime minister also expressed gratitude to the UN chief for acknowledging Pakistan’s ongoing contributions to international peace, security, and sacrifices made in counterterrorism efforts.
The UN chief, whose second five-year term expires at the end of this year, is expected to visit Pakistan next month.
