SHANGHAI, Oct. 19, (APP): A spectacular fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design graced Shanghai’s fashion scene as “Silk Road Elegance: Two Nations, One Runway” made its debut on Oct 17, presenting Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage through an innovative fashion presentation that celebrated Sino-Pakistani friendship.
Pakistani Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi kicked off the evening with an address highlighting how fashion serves as a universal language to strengthen bilateral ties. “Tonight demonstrates that the silk road legacy continues not through ancient caravans, but through shared creativity and mutual appreciation,” he stated.
Directed by Adnan Ansari of Rawayiat, the event transformed the catwalk into a vibrant platform for cross-cultural dialogue featuring the finest fashion and jewellery craftsmanship of Pakistan. The showcase unfolded through four distinct artistic visions, China Economic Net reported.
The journey began with Maheen Khan’s elegant fusion of traditional Pakistani cultural elements with modern aesthetics. Her collection, inspired by vibrant truck art and luxury couture, masterfully blended Eastern and Western sensibilities. Moazzam Abbasi followed with a tribute to Sindh’s Ajrak tradition, presenting organic cotton pieces dyed with natural pigments that reimagined ancient patterns for modern sensibilities.
Pakistani jewelry brand Winza captivated the audience with exquisite emeralds from Pakistan’s Swat Valley, showcasing masterful jewellery craftsmanship in their signature bridal collection and rare gemstone pieces. The finale featured The Factory Edit’s sustainable approach, with unique upcycled garments crafted from waste materials that demonstrate environmental consciousness without compromising elegance.
The event drew approximately 180 attendees, including diplomats, business leaders, fashion connoisseurs and media representatives. Among them, Huang Weiguo, Entrepreneur and Architect of Shanghai Challenge Textile Co., Ltd. and Chairman of Shanghai Yuanyi Industry Co., Ltd., highlighted fashion’s expanding significance in global cultural exchange.
Throughout the evening, live traditional Pakistani music and atmospheric lighting enhanced the immersive experience, creating a multisensory journey through Pakistan’s rich heritage.
In his closing remarks, Shehzad Ahmad, Consul General of Pakistan in Shanghai, reflected on the contemporary relevance of the Silk Road link, highlighting how cultural initiatives like the fashion show are weaving new threads into the fabric of Sino-Pakistani relations.
