BUCHAREST, Oct 06 (APP):The Pakistan-Romania Business Forum was held here on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), coinciding with a visit to Romania by a Pakistani business delegation.
The event was attended by representatives of Pakistani and Romanian companies and other stakeholders from various sectors. Among those present were Mr. Doru-Claudian Frunzulica, Vice President of the Romanian Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (ARICE); Professor Cristina-Emanuela Dascalu, PhD, Member of Romania’s Chamber of Deputies; and Ms. Irina Bogdan of the Asia-Pacific and Latin America Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Forum was addressed by Ovidiu Ioan Silaghi, Secretary General of the CCIR; Atif Farooqi, leader of the Pakistani business delegation; and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Romania, Ilyas Mehmood Nizami. A video message from the Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, Dr. Dan Stoenescu, was also played.
In his remarks, Ambassador Nizami underscored the Forum’s importance as a valuable platform for promoting contacts between the business enterprises of the two countries.
He said Pakistan, as the fifth most populous country in the world, offered a huge market to foreign businessmen, with significant import and export opportunities. He added that the country’s demographics also made it an important source of workers and professionals.
The ambassador maintained that Pakistan’s strategic location at the crossroads of the Middle East, Central Asia and South Asia, along with its proximity to China and its Free Trade Agreement with Beijing, positioned it as an attractive hub of regional connectivity.
He spoke at length about the possibilities for mutually beneficial cooperation between Pakistan and Romania in solar energy, IT services, infrastructure development, agriculture, connectivity, defence production and education.
Ambassador Nizami also briefed participants on the incentives offered by the Government of Pakistan to foreign investors, and on platforms such as the Special Investment Facilitation Council, which are aimed at facilitating enterprises from abroad.
He assured the audience that he and his team at the embassy remained committed to facilitating business linkages between Pakistan and Romania.
The statements at the event were followed by a series of business-to-business (B2B) meetings.
