Outgoing Pakistan’s UN Envoy Asim Iftikhar Ahmad bids farewell to Guterres
UNITED NATIONS, Sep 30 (APP):Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN, paid a farewell call on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday.
The UN chief appreciated Pakistan’s leading role and strong support for the UN and its peace and development agenda, and particularly lauded its mediation efforts, and contribution as current member of the UN Security Council, according to a press release of the Pakistan Mission to the UN.
The secretary-general congratulated the Ambassador Asim Ahmad on his appointment as Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, and wished him all the best.
The permanent representative conveyed his gratitude to Guterres for the support extended by him and his team during his tenure, and commended him for his outstanding leadership and principled advocacy for multilateralism, UN Charter and international law.
Since April 2025, Ambassador Asim Ahmad served as Pakistan’s chief delegate to the UN.
He has also represented Pakistan during its tenure on the United Nations Security Council, including serving as the Council’s President in July 2025.
Asim Ahmad previously served as the Ambassador to France (2022–2024) and Thailand (2017–2021), and as the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
