New Pakistani Ambassador assumes charge in Oslo

OSLO, Aug 13 (APP): Ambassador Asim Ali Khan has assumed charge as Ambassador of Pakistan to the Kingdom of Norway.

A career diplomat and member of the Foreign Service of Pakistan since 2003, Ambassador Khan brings over two decades of diplomatic experience, having served in key assignments in China, the United States, Canada and France, besides holding various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the federal capital.

Before taking up his current posting, he served as Consul General of Pakistan in Los Angeles, United States of America (USA), since January 2023. He has also served as Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director at the President’s Secretariat, Islamabad, among other diplomatic assignments.

During his career, Ambassador Khan has gained extensive expertise in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, foreign policy, economic diplomacy, international security, consular affairs, administration and engagement with overseas Pakistani communities. He has represented Pakistan at various international and bilateral forums, dealing with a range of diplomatic, political, economic and security matters.

Ambassador Khan holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and a Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Mechanical Engineering. He is proficient in Urdu, English and French.

In recognition of his distinguished public service, he was conferred on the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan’s prestigious civil awards, by the President of Pakistan on Pakistan Day 2023. In 2024, he was also honoured with the Anniversary Medal of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (SCO-RATS) on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Khan said he looked forward to working closely with the government and people of Norway to further strengthen the longstanding Pakistan-Norway partnership, deepen economic and people-to-people ties, and enhance engagement with the Pakistani community in Norway.
